Running out of steam

The rabbits are getting harder and harder to take care of. I can tolerate the heat and I don't mind 95 or 100 degree weather - sure I might complain a little - but it's nothing like having 50 frozen water bottles in 15 degree weather. It's absolutely ridiculous. With the wind chill, yes, yesterday is was literally 15 degrees. To be exact, winter hasn't even started yet! The first day of winter starts on December 21st. Gee... can't wait.

Now, we are going to try plan B. What's plan B? Bunnies in the garage. We will be going to Michigan this month and we need a friend to take care of the bunnies. Well, I can guarantee you that the 'bunny watcher' won't want to bring inside 50 water bottles at night so they won't freeze. I know I wouldn't want too! Too bad I have to. But that's besides the point. Since the barn isn't very secure, as far as holding warmth, we're going to move all of the rabbits in the garage and give them heaters. It will be a lot of work but it might be worth it in the end! I hope so anyways! :)

Now let's talk babies. No kits yet! I had a few does that were due but I don't think they took either that or they're going to be stillborn. I have quite a few babies that are available, so feel free to take a look at the For Sale page. I need to take pics of my BEW bucks so will try to do that soon. :)

Stay warm and have a Merry Christmas!

Christmas kits

Good news! I tried to sex all of the litters last night and I was very pleased. Well some kits were harder to tell than others which is why I can't sex everyone right off the bat. Lists are below. :)

Absolute (Sable Point) x Dancer (Smoke Pearl Marten) - Like I said, I can't tell for sure but it looks like Dancer has 2 does and a buck. The buck is a sable point marten and the two does are sable point and sable point marten. I will definitely be keeping the sable point doe! :) And possibly the sable point marten doe as well just to breed back to my sable points. The sable point marten buck is available, so let me know if you're interested in him.

Absolute (Sable Point) x Blue Moon (Blue Tort) - This litter was probably the hardest to sex because, for one, they're pretty small for their age. I'll start off with the black torts... it looks like I have one of each gender. :) I might keep the doe because I don't have many black torts at all. The buck should be available if I decide not to sell him. He may be useful in my sable point program because he's the only tort buck out of Absolute. Still thinking about him but feel free to inquire anyway if you're interested. As far as the sable points go, one is a doe but I'm not sure about the second one. The questionable kit is the runt of the litter, therefore it makes he/she harder to sex. Will be keeping the sable point doe and the questionable kit if it's a doe. ;) I guess it's safe to say that this litter isn't going anywhere for awhile. :)

Zip (Orange) x Caramel (Chocolate Otter) - the only kit out of this pair turned out to be a buck - a cinnamon buck. He's an only child and is very spoiled but is super friendly! This buck will definitely be available simply because I have no use for a cinnamon buck right now, unfortunately.

Tempest (BEW) x Heartfelt Oreo (Black VM) - 2 BEW bucks... NO!! Why couldn't I have had just one doe? Just one!? I love BEWs and I wish I could have had a doe to keep. :( That's okay though, they'll make wonderful pets for Chirstmas or herd bucks.

Absolute (Sable Point) x Aquene (Sable Point) - To make this blog shorter, I'm just going to come out and say... A SABLE POINT DOE - KEEPING! Lol, I've been waiting for a doe out of Aquene for awhile now and I'm so thrilled she finally had one. This little kit is extraordinary because she is out of Absolute, too. :)

And that's all. The other litters are very young and don't have their eyes opened yet. So anyways, if you happened to see something that you might be interested in, don't hesitate to ask! I know I still don't have pics but I'm working on it. ;)

Oh yeah. One more thing. Did I mention that MB's Sunkist had her litter on November 26th? I probably forgot... sorry. She had a total of 4 kits but unfortunately, only 1 orange made it. The other 3 oranges were very small - almost like peanuts at birth. I nearly thought they didn't have enough nutrition or something. Sunkist has never thrown peanuts before and definitely not 3 so something must have gone wrong.

25 days til Christmas! :)

Thanksgiving litters

Well, Thanksgiving is just about here. I had a few kits that were born since I last blogged and one more litter due tomorrow on Thanksgiving. :)

I'll start off with Cameron.

Zip (Orange) x Cameron (Broken Orange) - 2 broken orange kits! I could not believe how well little Cammie did! Her first litter without any DOAs or peanuts! :D She sure shocked me.... she weighs a little under 2 lbs *I think* but of course, now she's more because she has babies and has to eat a lot more. :) But anyway, a doe her size usually has dead babies especially on its first litter. Anyhow, the kits don't have a lot of color (like their mother) so I'm not sure if they can be shown or not.

Now to Sunkist. She was due today so my guess is her babies will be extra special because they will probably be born on Thanksgiving. ;) Her belly is huge so I know she's pregnant. :)

Now let's talk about other litters :) Right here is a picture of Dancer's kits (smoke pearl marten doe.) Sadly, the baby in the middle was a 'fader' and passed away. Faders aren't meant to live because something is wrong with them internally. I feel so sorry for the little kit... :( But anyway, the youngster in the middle was the fader that is no longer with us. So now, Dancer is down to 3 babies. I wasn't able to snap a pic of the other kit. The other kit was hopping around in the cage when this pic was taken. I didn't want to ruin the perfect pose so I took a pic with just the 3 kits. But like I just said, the one in the middle isn't with us anymore. :( If you are interested in any of these kits, let me know soon so I can take them into consideration. I haven't sexed them yet but when I do, I'll let you know.

Well, that's everything for now. Hope you and your family have a very nice Thanksgiving.

Pics of Convention bunnies

I just updated the website with pics of the new Convention bunnies.... feel free to take a look around and let me know what you think about them. :) Sorry it took so long.

Last Saturday I went to my friend's house to pick up my Convention buns. It was about a 2 1/2 hour drive but I'm not complaining because my transporter had to drive almost 20 hours from Georgia to Minnesota! That's certainly something I would never do but I'm glad someone was willing to. :) But anyway, overall, I'm happy with all of the rabbits I got. I let everyone settle in before I started to breed. I bred my new black doe, Melody (MEL) to Tempest today. I really wanted to breed her to Absolute but for some reason, Absolute wasn't up to breeding. Instead, he turned on her and got mad at her. Not sure why but oh well. The point is that Melody is bred and I'm glad. :) My goal is to get sable points from her, so I'll do that next time.

I would like to talk about each individual rabbit, but that would take forever! But like I said, I'm very pleased with all of my rabbits especially all the bucks even though I don't have good pics to show them off yet. :)

Litters are doing great by the way. Cameron is due today so she might kindle tonight. Then MB's Sunkist is due on the 23rd so we'll just see what happens.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Convention bunnies!

The Convention bunnies have finally arrived! I am SO happy!! I will post them on my website all at once with pictures. If they're up to it, I may try to take some tomorrow afternoon but they've had a rough week. Two bunnies, that are from Washington, stayed in a carrier cage for almost one whole week and they were constantly being moved around. I felt bad and hope they get used to their new environment soon. :)

Anyway, I will get pictures taken soon. :) I'm excited just to put them on the website! Lol.

Litters :)

I've been blogging quite a bit lately but I just had to blog about the recent litters that were born today!

Absolute x Blue Moon - kindled yesterday afternoon and had 4 kits! All are alive and doing wonderful. I'm so excited for this litter... I love torts and sable points so I really hope I can keep some does from this litter.

Zip x Caramel - Caramel had 2 kits that were born early this morning! She is a true dwarf since she has been throwing peanuts. So, basically, she only has one healthy kit since the other is a peanut and will probably pass within the next few days. :( The only survivor baby might turn out to be a cinnamon or a chocolate otter.

Tempest x Oreo - had 3 beautiful kits today! I have decided not to sell Tempest since as of today, he is a proven sire. :) Oreo did great for a first time mother. From what I can tell, she has 2 BEWs and 1 black VM. If there are any does, I want to keep 1-2.

Absolute x Aquene - Last litter born today was Aquene's. She had 2 kits this afternoon! One, you guessed it, is a peanut. Which proves she's a true dwarf like Caramel. I'm sure the healthy kit is a sable point, but it could also be a REW or Himi. I hope it's a sable point though. :) I will be keeping it if it's a doe. :)

That was all the litters born for today. But I had little Miss Abbigale that was due today as well, so she'll probably kindle tonight. Her belly is huge so she should have them tonight anyways. :) I'll keep you posted ... plus let's not forget the Convention bunnies will be arriving soon, too!!

Available rabbits

I'm a last minute kinda person so here I am trying to sell as many rabbits as possible before the new Convention bunnies arrive. I've decided to sell 2 more rabbits as of today.

MB's Tempest - VERY nice buck! What more could I say? Personally I haven't had any kits from him and I can't afford him consuming my cages if he won't produce. Just because I gave up on him doesn't mean he's no good! He truly is a fantastic buck. Tempest has a very nice body, head, and ears. He's not tattooed and has never been shown but I'm sure he would do great on the show tables (or in 4-H). Tempest would also make a superb pet for anyone of all ages. When I first brought him home, he was a little "bucky" and liked showing off to the ladies. :) Now that he has settled down, he loves to be held and pet. He's actually rather laid back so he would make an excellent pet for the elderly or the kids. Since I know Tempest will make a perfect pet, I may consider offers on him.

Peachtree's Bella - This doe would make a fine brood doe. She is quite small but doesn't have the potential for a show bunny. Bella has a narrow head and is a little long in the shoulders for my taste. But of course, the only reason why I'm selling her is to make room for the Convention bunnies. Otherwise, I would have kept her as she is 6 months old and is in season for breeding. Bella is kinda skittish but I'm sure if she went to a pet home, she would love every second of it. Like Tempest, I will consider offers on her for a pet home only.

So far so good! Convention bunnies are being picked up on Thursday and I'll be getting them on Saturday. Can't wait!

So crazy

At the moment, I'm sure everyone thinks I'm absolutely crazy. You won't believe this but on last minute notice, I've decided to get 3 more rabbits from the Convention making this a grand total of 10 bunnies altogether. I'm sure you're thinking, "Wow, that girl is insane!" right about now. Lol! At this point, I'm kinda thinking that myself. ;) It was so last minute that I had to hurry and make decision before the ship of opportunity sailed. Since I'm very greedy and love getting new things, especially rabbits, I figured what the heck. Based on a few pictures, they look ah-mazing!

I can't wait to get them or all the others! I don't want to spoil anything so I'm not going to tell what I'm getting. :) I'll wait and blog about them as soon as I get them. The Convention starts this Sunday so that's why everything was basically "last minute". Transporters left either today or yesterday and yesterday was when I decided I wanted 3 more rabbits. :)

So anyways, I'm sure you're sick from me babbling about the Convention. :) I'll probably blog later this weekend to keep you updated on what's going on. I have a few does that are due on the 7th so we'll see how it goes.

First fall litter!

This is officially my first alive fall litter of 2010! Vixen and Comet's babies were stillborns as I mentioned in the last blog but today, Dancer had 4 kits! All are alive and doing great! I'm excited to finally have a litter that survived. I haven't had any shaded litters in awhile - actually I haven't had any litters at all since June and those were oranges - so I'm hoping I'll get lucky and have some really nice kits. :)

If I have anymore litters throughout the week, I'll blog again. Until then keep warm in the mornings and good luck to those attending the Convention!

Atleast something

Well, at least I can say I finally had a litter. Even though they didn't make it. Comet had a litter of 2 yesterday. One kit was dead on the cage while the other was in the nestbox.... barely alive. It was helpless and frozen so I knew it wasn't going to make it. I wrapped it in fur and later when I went back out to check on it - it was dead - like I expected.

Vixen might have had a false pregnancy, too. She really fooled me though. She was pulling fur for about 2 days - leaving me hanging. She was due on the 29th so unless they're stillborns, she's not pregnant. That's normal though because it's her first time. We'll breed again though.

That's about all for now. Convention is coming soon! I have tons of homework so I'll blog again next time. Happy Halloween!

Can't wait til November

I can't wait until November! Like I've haven't already said that but a million times! But that's how excited I am. :) Even though the Convention is the week of November 7th, I won't be able to get my rabbits until the 13th. :( Oh well I still can't wait until then!

I've decided to sell Zip, too. He'll be 2 years old in December and it's time for his babies to replace him. I'm determined to breed him to most of my does before he sells though. :) Super, super, super sweet buck! I simply love him! He is a proven sire and has produced several nice litters for me. Zip has a decent bone, head, and ears but his color is slightly smutty. But I have to admit, it's really not too bad now - last month, he looked awful because he was molting. Now that he's got a new coat, he looks fabulous. Like a just mentioned, Zip is truly a super sweet buck and would make a wonderful pet for anyone. What more could you want? He's got it all. :-D

I will look over my rabbits again tonight when I feed them to see if I need to sell anyone else. Until then.... God bless.

Small herd reduction

I'm having, I guess you can call it, a small herd reduction. I'm preparing for the convention in November. Even though I can't attend, I am going to get transportation through a friend. It sounds so far away but I know it will creep up on me before I know it, so I need to get ahead. I know a few breeders who have to do the same if it means culling several rabbits.

I've decided to sell Absolute as part of my reduction. I don't want to because he's an AWESOME little guy but he does have a white toenail which disqualifies him for showing. A bummer.... he would have been a great show buck and might have had a few legs. I need to move him on because I want something that is perfect all around so it can improve my herd. Absolute will make a GREAT pet for small children or even elderly people. He is soooo sweet! And for the most part, he's pretty laid back even though he's friendly, too. I really hate to sell him....

I may also decide to sell a few more rabbits here and there but this is pretty much my "small herd reduction". :) That's everything for now.

What's new

Let's see .... I bred Blue Moon to Absolute and Caramel to Zip today. I just might get lucky and have some kits this time. Hopefully anyways. :)

I've got some news that can be either good or bad. We are going to be moving soon. Most likely by next year. Like I said, this can either be good or bad because depending on where we move will determine if I can keep my rabbits or not. For example, if we move in a subdivision, chances are that I won't be able to keep my rabbits. I'm not saying that I'm definitely going to sell all of my bunnies, but there is a good possibility. There is also a good possibility that we will move somewhere with a few acres so I can build a shed and keep the bunnies. So it's a 50% chance either way you look at it. My mom wants us to move before I go to high school. I just thought I'd give you a heads up so it won't be such a surprise. Please keep in mind that this may just be "talk" and we might not move until 2-3 years down the road. But I thought I'd let you know just in case. As far as I'm concerned, everything is going to be normal as far as breeding, showing, buying, and selling my rabbits.

To prove that everything will continue to be normal, I'm getting transportation from the ARBA Convention for 5 rabbits! (So far anyways, I may get a few more) :) I'm not going to say what I'm getting because it will ruin the surprise!

That's all for now.

Finished updates

I finally finished the updates! It didn't take as long as I thought. Check out the Does page. I separated them into groups so it's more organized. Before, rabbits were scrambled around everywhere and it just looked messy. Now it should be much easier to look at my rabbits. :)

I still have a few more tweaks to do but nothing major. I'm glad the hard part is over with.

Sunkist didn't have her kits today so I'm hoping she'll have them tonight. I really do think she's pregnant just by her attitude and her belly. ;) I'm super excited to see what she has. It seems like I haven't had any babies hopping around in awhile. I kinda miss it. But they grow up too fast....

I'll be updating again soon when Sunkist has her kits.

Very unusual

Well I'm glad to say that I got my first litter of fall kits. Even though I can't say it proud... Aquene had her litter this morning but sadly she only had one baby. Yes, one kit. In her first litter, she had 3 alive and healthy babies and now she turns around and gives me one stillborn kit. Oh well, I'm going to blame it on the buck and the heat. Now that it's October and much cooler, I am going to breed more does this weekend.

On Wednesday, I bred Absolute to Vixen and Zip to Comet. Yesterday, I bred Tempest to Peanut Butter. So we'll see what we get this time around. Like I said, I'm going to breed a couple more this weekend so keep looking for updates. :)

That's all for now. Enjoy the cool weather!

Nothing yet

Needless to say, nothin yet. I had several does due over the weekend but nothing. Nothing! Not a single baby. They all had me fooled. Even if I would have gotten a litter of stillborns, I still would have blogged about it. I'm bummed because I was really looking forward to my litters being born. I'm going to rebreed and I hope I'll have better luck on round two.

Not sure what's going on with my does not being pregnant. I'm sure it's just the bucks though. What are the chances that it would be the does' fault out of 7 does that were bred? And I only had 9 does bred. And yet I ask myself.... can it get any worse?? Sadly, yes it can but not by much. I'm still waiting on Aquene and Sunkist to kindle which should be the very first of October. Hopefully it will get better not worse and I'll end up with a few kits.... hopefully. :)

With that being said, I'm now on the hunt for a new sable point buck. So far, Absolute hasn't shown me any signs of being proven. I'm not going to sell him just yet because there still might be a good possibility that he can have babies. I want to be looking just to be on the safe side though. The buck must be show quality and I'm interested in mostly juniors. If you know anyone who has a nice show quality sable point buck for sale, let me know!

Tempest hasn't shown any signs of being proven either. But I'm not ready to replace him yet.

That's all for now.

PS: I'm doing a few minor adjustments to the website, so if you want more updates, just email me or keep checking the blog. ;)

Greensboro show

Overall, the Greensboro show was just okay. I probably wouldn't go again unless I have several bunnies to show at one time. Which usually doesn't happen unless they're juniors or bucks - everyone else is usually bred. :)

I am seriously considering buying some rabbits from the Convention in November. I'm talking about between 5-7 rabbits at a time, so I'll need to do a little culling. Of course, I can't be there to pick them up myself because it's waaay too far away so I'll have to pay for transportation, too.

That was just a little update - I don't have much more to blog about. I have some litters due at the end of this week so I'll probably blog again when they kindle.

Finally starting to feel like fall

Now that it's September, it's finally cooling down. Well somewhat anyways. Last time I blogged, it was cool in the morning and since then it got a little hotter but it was still bearable. It's supposed to cool off some more within the next few days. Yay! I like the mild temperatures - not too hot, not too cold. It's terrible in the winter with all of the frozen water bottles though. I guess I shouldn't complain because our winters are much warmer than the winters up north. It's still cold though. :(

I am just beside myself with anticipation. I can't wait until the Greensboro show and until my upcoming litters arrive! Between the two of them, I'm not sure which one I'm more excited for. Probably my litters though. I always get eager for those. :) But who doesn't? I love peeking in the nestboxes when I get up in the morning. Then the next stage: hopping out of the box. That's just too cute! They fall out of the nestbox and their little feet fall through the cage. The funny part is they simply can't figure out how to get back in the box! Shortly after, I can start to sex them. That's another good part, too. That's also when the elimation process begins. I usually keep back the good bucks and does and typically sell the BUDs or BUBs.

I've figured out a plan.... I'm going to show all of my jr orange bucks at the moment and the one/ones that don't place well, I'll be selling them. So if you run into me at the Greensboro show, don't hesitate to ask if any are for sale. I'm going to try to sell as many as possible since I don't have enough cage space to bring home the 2 does that I'm getting. I'm buying a sable point junior doe and an orange junior doe. I'm so excited I can hardly wait! :o)

That's it for now. We're going on vacation this weekend so it might be a few days before I blog again.

September...

Wow, September already. Where did the time go? Hurricane Earl didn't bring us anything. Had a little breeze earlier today; it felt really good for the bunnies. In the mornings, it's indescribable.... it actually feels like fall. The buns do all kinds of binkies and tricks! It's so cute. I certainly would too if I were a bunny. :) Of course, by afternoon it's the same old -- hot and humid.

I bred Aquene and Sunkist the other day. I'm super excited to see what all of my upcoming litters produce. ;) I'm still deciding about which route to take with the bunnies. I'm set on going with oranges and sable points but in order to expand in sable points, I will need to cull some. I was debating on selling the BEWs, but I really like them so I'm not sure what to think at this point ....

I'll be taking more pictures of the new buns and the buns for sale hopefully by this weekend. Until then... have a good weekend and Labor Day!

Can't wait

I'm so excited and I can't wait until the Greensboro show on September 18th. I haven't decided how many I'm going to take yet. I am defiantly going to show some of my oranges but I'm not sure about the others. I want to take all the juniors!

I just got 2 junior does yesterday. One Chocolate Otter and one Broken Orange doe. I think I'm going to show the Chocolate Otter doe (CE3) at the Greensboro show. The broken orange doe (named Partly Sunny) is actually from Fanta and Barely. I sold Barely while she was bred to Fanta and she had 4 kits. I was able to buy one of her babies back. :) Barely and Partly Sunny look nothing alike because Partly Sunny has much more color.

More later.... I can't think of anything else to talk about. LOL!

Oh yeah, one more thing: I have several does bred. It was a little bit cooler so I bred all of the does that were stubborn in the last blog (Blue Moon, Oreo, Abbigale, Comet, Quinoa, and Peanut Butter) and a few more. I can't wait for them to kindle. It seems like it's been forever since we've had any kits!

Saturday, August 21, 2010

No luck

It was a little bit cooler this morning, so I tried to breed a few does. Unfortunately, it didn't go according to plans... I tried to breed Blue Moon, Quinoa, Peanut Butter, Abbigale, Comet, and Oreo and NONE of them wanted anything to do with a buck! Out of all 6 does, I thought surely one of them would have gotten bred. Oh well.... I'll keep trying.

It's been about a week since I last blogged. School started on the 16th so I just haven't had time to do much of anything but homework. From now on, I'll mostly be blogging on Fridays or the weekends.

I plan to reorganize and sell some of my orange bucks. I have waaaay too many right now. Well it seems like it anyways. A few are already listed on the For Sale page but more will be on the way once I decide which ones to part with and take pictures.

That's all for now! I may blog again before the week starts.

Friday, August 13, 2010

Almost over

I keep telling myself that summer is almost over. Only one more month. :) I can't believe it's already Friday, August 13th! Good luck everyone! :D

I'm not sure when I'll be able to start breeding again. It's too hot to do much of anything. I usually breed in July for our local county fair but it looks like I won't be going this year. I like to go because it gives me a chance to display my bunnies and cull some if needed. Not this year though. I won't have any juniors to sell. I may decided to sell a few just for the fair, but more than likely they'll be seniors.

Right now, I'm trying to plan the "who to breed to who". I'll only be able to breed Absolute this fall because Avalanche is too young. Which leaves me with 3 bucks that I can breed. Tempest, Zip, and Absolute.

Fanta had a heat stroke about a month ago, and I forgot to blog about it. Which means he's absolutely useless for breeding. :(

More later ... stay cool!

Sorry everyone

Sorry everyone.... Our Internet is down due to a recent storm so I'm very sorry if I'm not updating the website regularly or replying to emails on time. Our computer works, just the Internet is out so I'm using a friend's.

I've decided to keep a few more orange bucks (for now) so that doesn't leave much of a choice. Right now, I only have a broken Chinchilla junior doe available, my Hotot buck, and the blue banded senior Hotot doe for sale.

The Internet should be back to normal soon. I'll blog more then. :)

Herd thoughts

Since I'm selling out of Dwarf Hotots, I thought that it was about time to organize my herd plans a little.

I've decided to make Oranges and Sable Points my main varieties (I've probably mentioned that in previous blogs but this time I'm positive). I will be using some of the other shaded varieties such as smoke pearls and Siamese sables to breed to them. I will also continue to breed torts and a few Himalayans to help the sable points' color. Although right now, I don't have any torts other than my blue tort, Blue Moon. :( But I'm working on it. :)

I'm hoping that if I breed Blue Moon to a sable point buck that they might produce black torts but I'm not sure though. Blue torts seem to be good sellers so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she'll produce more of her, but only in show quality size. :)

That's about all for now.

Selling out of Dwarf Hotots

I'm sooo sorry for not updating the blog! I can't believe it's been almost 2 weeks! Within the 2 weeks, I've have some time to sit back and think....

I've decided to sell out of Dwarf Hotots for various reasons. I only have 5 Hotots that I need to sell (1 Black Banded senior buck, 1 Blue Banded senior doe, 1 Black Banded junior doe, 1 Black Banded junior buck that looks to be show quality, and 1 beautiful Mismarked kit that hasn't been sexed yet). All of the following I just listed will be available.

I really hate to sell this beautiful breed but I've decided to sell out of Dwarf Hotots, because in order to expand in Netherland Dwarfs, I will need more room. I plan to make Orange and Shaded varieties my main colors in Netherlands with a few random colors such as BEWs, Chocolates, Otters, etc. I've also recently decided that I would like to experiment with the Agouti group as well. So, with that said, I am selling out of Dwarf Hotots. I may sell them individual but would love to sell all 5 together if possible. Please contact me if you are interested in anything I have for sale and I will give you more info and prices!

Dog days

Well, these are the dog days. I don't think we've gotten rain for at least 2 weeks already. The grass is absolutely fried and bone dry.

The poor bunnies have to stay in the heat all day.... :( They have fans and ice packs but they only last for a few hours. I had to bring Heartfelt Sunkist and her 2 babies inside the sunroom today because they were looking a bit lethargic and I was worried about them. They were wet around their noses (which can be a sign to heat stroke) and they just sat there with their eyes closed. They haven't quite figured out how to get in and out of the box yet. I just brought their whole cage inside and they seem to be acting normal. :)

The other bunnies look fine though. They're hot as ever but they're doing good for the most part.

I think I've changed my mind about going to the Saluda show this weekend .... Most of the other breeders in my area won't be able to attend so what's the point of going if I won't have any competition? It seems kinda stupid to me. :D So anyway, I probably won't be doing much showing in the near future.

I have lots of bunnies for sale! A few seniors and lots of babies! Just no pictures.... I have a couple of pics of random babies but not of everyone. For sure I have the following available: 1 Dwarf Hotot senior buck, 1 sable point senior buck, 2 broken chinchilla junior bucks, 1 broken chinchilla junior doe, (possibly two for sale) and about 2 or 3 orange junior bucks available but I haven't decided which one/ones to part with yet.

That's all for now. Hope you and your bunnies can stay cool in this heat! ;)

Cool down

We've had a cool down over the past few days. It hasn't been near as hot as it was. The humidity is going down and the air feels so refreshing which is unusual here in the summer time. It was 60 degrees last night and it felt sooooo good! The bunnies loved it, too!

I'm super excited to start breeding again in the fall. I've probably already said this before though. Lol! I might breed some does in August that way they'll have their babies in September (when it's cooler). I have some does that are at breeding age: Vixen, Oreo, Abbigale, etc and can't wait to see what they produce.

I updated the website and added more bunnies to the for sale page. Ebony is available because she just hit 2 years old. I like to sell my bunnies right at 2 yrs or sometimes later because personally, I normally don't but rabbits that are 2-3 years old. That's just me... I know a lot of breeders who buy older rabbits. ;) Now, if it's something that I must have, then I'll go for it. :) Anyway, I really hate to sell Ebony. I would love to see her go to a pet home especially or to a breeder. She is one of the sweetest rabbits I have and a great producer for her size.

Ajax is available again. I would really like him to go to a wonderful pet home or a home that will show him. He is very friendly. I think he would do well on the show tables if he had more competition. Ajax has an AWESOME head and body but his ears are just okay.

More blog updates coming soon along with more additions to the herd! ;) And hope everyone has a Happy 4th of July!

What's new

Sorry, I let the blog slip away from me again. :) There's a lot to talk about so here it goes....

Fanta x After the Fox - she had a total of 4 kits! One was a DOA on the wire but I'm still glad because this is the most that she's ever had. :D It looks like she has 2 fawn/lynx and one orange but I can't tell.

Tempest x Opaline - had 3 DOA kits... 1 was in the nestbox and 2 were on the wire. They were all normal sized, no peanuts. I thought Opaline did good since she has a broken leg. It's coming along great by the way. She is finally starting to put pressure on it.

Fanta x Sunkist - had 3 kits! One is a peanut though but the other 2 are fat and healthy. :) All were cozy in the nestbox with lots of fur on top of them.

Chocolate Chip and Orange Fiesta are due on the 28th, but I'm almost positive that Fiesta isn't pregnant. Third time - no babies. She must be one of those "slow developing" bunnies. I'm not giving up on her though. She's too nice to give up. :) She's broody but she has the head I want!

I'm done breeding for the summer. It's simply too hot. My mom and I were at a store this week and when we came back to the car, the thermometer said 116 degrees! Whew! Of course, as we drove down the road, it cooled off to 97.

Got a little bit of rain yesterday but all it did was tease the grass. It rained steadily for about 2-3 minutes... our deck barely got wet. We're hoping for some more rain soon because the grass is fried.

I posted more shows on the Shows page, but I don't think I'll be going to the Greensboro show. There is a family wedding planned on the 18th but so far, it may be postponed. So it's a 50% chance. I'm going to try to make it to Saluda on July 10th though.

That's all for now.

Two new litters

We had two new litters yesterday. I'm very excited for one, but I am a little disappointed in the other. Both does were first timers so I guess I can't expect much.

VJ x Snowdrift - they had 3 healthy kits yesterday morning! Snowdrift actually had 4 but one was a DOA on the wire. I am still very proud of her though! One kit is a miss-marked Hotot and the other 2 are correctly marked. I will keep the miss-marked kit if it's a doe because I think they're really pretty. :)

Fanta x Caramel - they had babies yesterday also, but unfortunately, she only had 2 babies.... It really surprised me because she's not tiny but she's not huge either. She's between the two with a nice head/ear and wonderful body. Caramel had one chocolate (will be keeping if it's a doe) and one DOA peanut. So I guess she might be a true dwarf. :)

After the Fox is due tomorrow so I'll keep you posted.... my sister's birthday is tomorrow, too! Uh oh, better start making a card, off the computer, since I didn't buy one. :) My sister helps me out tremendously, because she gives me advice on which buns to buy/cull and who to breed to who, and she takes me to most shows. :)

Color breeding programs

I've decided to sit back and relax on breeding until fall. I try to cut back in the summer because it's simply way too hot. It was 98 degrees here yesterday but with the humidity, it felt like 106 (says the weather channel). I hope the buns will be able to make it through the summer without over heating or heat strokes.... I've been bringing a few buns in our sunroom for the day, but what good does it do since I can't bring the whole rabbitry inside.

I've also been thinking about my color breeding programs. Since I keep getting squirrels, opals, chinchillas, etc popping up in my litters, I think I should start breeding Agoutis. I really don't care for chestnuts, but I like the rest of the varieties in the group.

I'm on the hunt for a typey broken buck to use with my new Agouti program. I think a broken chestnut buck would be best since I could breed him to my oranges, too. I'm rather picky about bucks. He must have a good pattern and I want an awesome head and body, too. Ears aren't much of an issue -- they just need to be no longer than average.

Of course, I'm going to continue working on my orange program. Right now, I'm kinda working on the color more so then type. I have a few smutty does, but I'm not worried about them because with Fanta, I might get clean kits. :) I'm not going to boast, but I'm happy with my juniors. I just don't have the superb pictures to show them off. :)

My shaded program is on its way, too. With Absolute and Aquene, I feel like I'm off to a pretty decent start. I also have Pink Ice, Avalanche, and Roxy that I think will be able to help me out a lot. I'm getting a sable point doe on Friday. She's about a year old and isn't proven yet so I'm going to try to get some babies from her. She has a leg so if I can't get anything from her, at least I can show her. :)

Stay cool.

Same old

Hot afternoon thunderstorms is what happens here just about everyday. As I type this, it's pouring down rain, thundering, and lightening. Before that, it was sticky and humid so the rain feels really good.

Nothing much is going on right now in the barn. There's only two words that can describe it. It's hot. :) I went to feed the buns at about 10:30 this morning (it's usually earlier than that) and I had to turn the fans on right away.

Better get going, the storm doesn't sound too good and I don't want it to knock our power out.

Upcoming juniors

I'm so excited for my upcoming juniors. I have a lot of crazy varieties. I think Quinoa has 2 squirrels, 4 broken chinchillas, and the other one looks like it might be a broken chestnut. I was glad that she didn't have any chestnuts in this litter. Chestnuts aren't a personal favorite of mine. She usually has at least 2 chestnuts per litter. In her last litter, when she was bred to Zip, I got 4 chestnuts! But I can already tell that I'm going to be keeping a lot from this litter. :)

MB's Sunkist has some truly beautiful babies. She even took on one from Quinoa. That really surprised me because she's so small. Most of my does that are about 2 - 2.5 lbs don't have any kits alive. Sunkist has probably gained weight since she had her kits, but before that she was about 2 lbs and a few times she was under 2 lbs. I need to get her out on the show tables but I was too excited to breed her. :)

Dancer is doing pretty good too. I expected more kits from her since she's a BUD but that's okay. I know Dancer has 2 smoke pearls but I don't know what the other one is. It looks like a sable point marten... ? Whatever color it is, it should make a nice pet. :)

I have a few more juniors for sale but not many. I only have Reebok (I think I may keep him but feel free to inquire anyways) and a seal doe or two available. One for sure is for sale but I haven't decided on the other seal yet. The seals aren't one my For Sale page because I haven't had time, but I'm going to add them soon. And of course, Reebok and the seals can't leave their mothers right now but they'll be ready soon enough.

Caramel and Snowdrift are due on the 19th so we'll see what we get. I'm hoping Caramel will give me lots of chocolate! :)

Cameron and Absolute

Just picked these two up yesterday! Sooooo excited especially for Absolute! I can't wait to breed them. Cameron will work get with our oranges. Absolute looks even better than expected. :) It's 11:03 pm and I'm very tried so I can't blog long...

I added more juniors to the website. Many of which I did not name. I haven't had time to think about some good ones. :) I also added a few more bunnies for sale but not many. Still have lots of seniors that are ready to go to good homes. :)

I'll talk about our new additions later once I spend more time with them and get to know them better. Good night.

Taylorsville

Saturday was the Taylorsville show. We decided not to show and I was pretty glad because there weren't many people showing. I got a black Himalayan doe that I named Roxy along with 11 cages! I'm so glad I finally got some extra ones. It's always good to have more than less. :)

I have some bad news, too. One of our sweetest bunnies ever, little Opaline got too scared while we were putting up cages on Saturday. :( She started jumping off the walls on her cage and got her foot caught in the wire. I'm pretty sure it's broken because it's twisted. I've never had a rabbit to do this before.... She's hopping along fine but it must hurt really badly. After Memorial Day, I think I might have to take her to the vet to put her down. :( A bummer because she was absolutely gorgeous with an excellent head and ears. She was bred (for the first time) a few days ago, too. :(

Overall, we had a good time at Taylorsville. We didn't stay long, but long enough to get an idea of how many people were at the show.

I'll keep the blog updated, because I will have a surprise to blog about tomorrow!

Quinoa's litter

WOW, can you believe it!!?? SEVEN kits!! Quinoa had 7 babies yesterday. Of course, she's big BUD but she produces enormous litters. She had 5 brokens (hoping for a broken chestnut doe) and 2 solids (maybe chestnuts or solid chinchillas). I defiantly plan to keep a lot of babies from her this time. :)

It's getting late.... well not really but school isn't over yet so I'm off to bed. By the way, Fiesta, MB's Sunkist, and Dancer are due this week so I'll keep you updated especially since school is almost out. That means I get to take pics, update the site more often, and blog all the time! Lol!

Good night. Hope to wake up with the nestboxes filled. :)

Bunny traits

I never remember to update the blog until 2-3 days after I update the website. Sorry.

I put Obese up for sale. She's a great brood doe, great pet, and maybe even a good show doe. I don't know if she would make a good show doe or not because I haven't started showing Dwarf Hotots yet. You wouldn't believe how friendly she is though. I LITERALLY have to push her out of the way in order to close her cage. No joke. That's how ridiculously friendly she is. LOL! I really hate to sell her, but I have so many ND juniors that I plan to keep so I have to sell Obese. The second reason why I have to sell her is because I'm keeping her 2 daughters, and I'm going to sell VJ soon too. That way, I won't have anything in the barn related to Obese or VJ. :)

I'm also selling Tiger Lily and Eclipse. Boy, I'm having a small herd reduction. LOL. Tiger Lily is getting older now and I need to make room for her babies to replace her. And the only reason why I'm selling Eclipse is because I need more cage space. That's basically the whole reason why I have to sell these wonderful brood does. I really hate to sell them though.... :(

That's all for now.

Juniors

I am just so pleased with my juniors. I have awful pictures on the website that don't do them justice though. Just about all of my oranges are friendly because of their dad, Zip. Every time I go in the barn, they are always at the front of the cage greeting me. :) I have to put my arm in front of the cage so they don't fall out! Sun Silk actually did fall out of the cage last week. She flopped onto the ground and sniffed around. When I put her back, she acted as if nothing happened; still begging for food. :) She didn't even try to run.

We had some thunderstorms yesterday afternoon. I cooled down to 69 degrees with a slight wind. It felt SO good! The buns enjoyed it, too. :) Now, it's back to normal. We might get some showers later this evening, but it's still humid and sticky outside.

Bunny buyers came over the weekend to pick up Jalapenos, Chipotle, and Zorro. They all went to lovable pet homes. :)

For Sale page

I updated basically everything tonight. For Sale page, Nestbox, Shows, you name it. I have lots of bunnies for sale right now. I'm having a sort of "reduction" on Sable Points. Nothing major. I just feel like I need to start over because I wasn't having any luck before. So Aquene and Akeelah are defiantly staying and that's about it. The rest are leaving. Well, I'm most likely going to keep Aquene's little Sable Point buck as my new herd buck.

News in the nestbox! Peanut Butter had her second litter yesterday; 2 stillborns and 1 live and healthy blue otter! At least I think it's a blue otter. :)

It's about 10:30 and I'm getting tired.... This week flew by. On the bright side, only 2 more weeks of school! :) I'll probably blog again tomorrow. No promises!

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Crazen's litter

Crazen is having her kits! I'm SO glad she's having them now because if she had them over night, I wouldn't be able to save them. I already saved one of her kits because she had it on the wire. :( I picked it up carefully and put in Crazen's box. It was somewhat cold, but it was squirming and it also squeaked when I picked it up. That's a good sign. :) I hope she'll pull out more fur to keep it warm. Crazen is in her nestbox now, so I don't think she's finished having her kits. I don't want to disturb her while she's giving birth, so I'll keep you posted when she's done.

Recent News

Well, here I am... I almost forgot to update the blog again but luckily I remembered after making a promise last night! It seems like it has been 3 weeks since I last blogged but it was only 4 days ago. I have a lot to catch up on. :)

Bunnies are selling like crazy! Little Gatorade went today. Gatorade is perfectly healthy and was coming along great, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to let him go a week early (just for once) since the family couldn't wait! He went to a pet home with 3 young children. I know he will be loved and pampered all the time. :)

Peanut Butter is already pulling fur. I guess she's really excited. She's not due until next Wednesday! LOL.

I think Barely Tri's kit is a little buck. I'm not sure why, but for some reason, I couldn't sex him as easily as others. We think Aquene has a Sable Point buck and a Tort buck. Not sure what the REW is yet. I really, really hope I'm wrong, because I want a Sable Point doe! :)

I'm going to slow down on breeding since it's getting hotter. I don't like to breed as much in the summer because it's just too hot for the pregnant and/or nursing does. I may breed a few here and there but, for the most part, it won't be many.

I plan to breed Caramel to Fanta, Heartfelt Sunkist to Fanta, and Opaline to Tempest towards the end of this month. I may breed an experienced doe along with them, but I'll have to wait and see who will be ready to breed again by then.

Have a good weekend!

Sorry!

So sorry! I've been updating the website with pictures, for sale bunnies, and kits that were born recently but I keep forgetting to update the blog. It's getting late and I'm getting really tired; the week isn't over yet, so I promise to update the blog tomorrow night. Remember: the clock is about 4 hours behind from when I actually published the blog so it's really about 10:00 PM not after 6:00! LOL

Until tomorrow, stay cool.

Sunday, May 2, 2010

Finally!

I finally took pictures! Unfortunately, I only had time to add Eclipse's kits onto the Juniors and For Sale pages. Oh well. I figured I'd just update the blog that way everyone would know what's going on and why the website is a big mess.

After the Fox has 2 bucks! I was really bummed because I thought for sure she had a doe. :( Her name is now Gatorade since she's a buck. Gatorade is for sale and Minute Maid is on hold.

Ebony had 3 kits this morning! 2 brokens and one solid. Don't have a clue what colors they'll be. ?

That's all for now. It takes awhile to upload the pics onto the site, so who knows when it will finally be finished.

New month, new kits

I can't believe it's already May. I woke up early this morning and started cleaning the barn. Overall, we're done but I want to move some bunnies around. Since it's almost summer, I want all my does in a cool area. So, all my pregnant does, nursing does, and soon-to-be-bred does are in the middle of the barn where a cool breeze flows through.

Speaking of nursing does, Tiger Lilly and Misty Morning had their kits. Tiger Lilly had 4 kits yesterday morning, and Misty Morning had 4 kits last night! Ebony is due tonight. Can't wait! She made a HUGE nest this afternoon so I know she's ready. :)

I'll update again later if I have more kits. :)

Babies in the Nestbox

I updated the website again today and added the 2 Smoke Pearl does. I am probably going to breed Dancer instead of Vixen because I want to keep Vixen in good show condition for the next show. Not sure which show I'll be going to next though.... I was thinking the Taylorsville show next month in May but nothing is definite.

I bred MB's Sunkist to Zip today. Poor thing, she was mad at me the rest of the day!

We sexed Quinoa's kits today, also. We're pretty sure that she has 3 bucks and a doe. :( I was hoping for more does than bucks but that's okay.

It looks like Obese has 3 does (yay!) and a buck but we're not sure yet.

Eclipse has 4 does and one buck (I think and I hope). :) One blue Himi buck, one blue Himi doe, one blue tort doe, (YEAH!!), one sable point doe, (YEAH!!!), and one black doe. Not real sure about the black though. It might be a buck but I hope not.

Triple Crown

We had a blast at the Triple Crown in Spartanburg today! We won a leg for BOV with our Smoke Pearl senior doe that we just bought. Yay! She had one mismatched toenail but you could barely tell. In show B, she was DQ'd because of it but in show A, she won a leg. What a day!

The other doe we purchased was a Smoke Pearl Marten. Both does are sisters and just turned seniors. However, the Marten is a BUD. Once they are all settled in, we plan to breed them to Ajax. It might take me about another week to finally take pics again. :)

Also, we bred Fiesta to Zip this afternoon.

Friday, April 23, 2010

Entire website updated

I updated the ENTIRE website today. New pictures and a new Nestbox page. Whew! Glad it's over though because that little voice in my head reminded me to take pics everyday. :)

I have to make this blog short because I still have a lot to do before the show tomorrow.

Dalisha had 2 stillborn kits so I gave her one of Aquene's babies. If I'm not mistaking, I gave her a tort. ??

I plan to rebreed Fiesta since she wasn't pregnant and maybe a few other first time moms.

More later after the show tomorrow.

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

More babies :)

WOW, I feel SO lucky right now. Aquene had 3 kits yesterday morning!! It was defiantly a shocker to me because I didn't expect any alive from her. So far so good, it doesn't look like she has any peanuts in there. :) Which is another shocker for me because I was told that her dam produced peanuts.

Anyway, Dalisha should have her babies tonight (if she's pregnant). As for Fiesta, she was due today and no sign of kits yet. Hopefully she'll have them tonight.

I'm working on the Nestbox page as hard as possible. I have several kits that are ready for a deposit, but who wants to put down a deposit if you can't see a pic of what you're getting? I'm trying to work on it every spare minute I have. :)

Sunday, April 18, 2010

Nestbox page

Well, I'm already bored with my Nestbox page, so I want to do something a little different. You'd think it be easy just to start typing, but I want it to look good and original. Not sure what I could do though. ?? I've been trying to look at other websites just to get an idea. So, maybe I'll have something by tonight. Well, tonight is my goal before Monday starts again. :(

The only good part about the new week starting is that I have some does due! :)

Also, I've been noticing the time on the blog and it's not right. At all. I defiantly wasn't up at 5:00 this morning to write this blog. The time is about 3 hours off of what it says. It's really 8:04 AM right now.

Saturday, April 17, 2010

Sorry for the delay

I feel awful about never updating the blog. I used to update it about 3-5 times per week and now it's gotten so bad that it's usually only once a week. I will try to get into a habit. :)

The buns are doing absolutely wonderful! I'm so proud of how my juniors are looking so far! Well, Blue Moon's babies won't be perfect, of course, because she's a tort and she was bred to an orange. Oh well. I plan to breed her to Ajax next time. I really want some more blue torts because I'll be able to show them soon. :) Anyway, even though Blue Moon's kits won't be showable, I'm defiantly looking forward to showing Comet's babies and maybe After the Fox's. One of the does out of Comet has noticeably longer ears. I'm probably going to keep her as a brood doe because she will most likely end up looking somewhat like Comet. :) Comet is an excellent producer and I'm sure her babies will be, too. :)

I am expecting 3 litters next week. Yay! Not that I need anymore kits right now, but it's always good to keep a steady "flow". :)

Sunday, April 11, 2010

Juniors

I updated the website and posted the juniors on the Juniors page. I finally decided on some good names! LOL! I will take some pictures soon but not right away. Sorry. I don't like to take pics when they're too young because they don't pose and they grow so quickly. I would have to take pics everyday if I took pictures when the kits were 2 or 3 weeks old!

Anyway, Minute Maid is already spoken for if I decide to sell him. I was thinking about keeping the rest. I know that I want to keep all of Comet's kits but that may be too many out of the same litter. So, I'm just going to wait to see how each of them matures. Comet's whole litter is looking good so far and so is After the Fox's! It's going to be a tough decision .....

Orange Crazen wasn't pregnant, so I rebred her to Fanta today. I hope to have some nicely colored oranges with type just like Crazen. :)

Hope you had a good weekend.

Sunday, April 4, 2010

Happy Easter

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Easter! It was a such a beautiful weekend here! Wish it wasn't over.... On the bright side, summer is right around the corner. :)

It's starting to get warm in the barn in the afternoons. That means the babies don't like to stay in their nestboxes for long! All the orange/fawn litters (After the Fox, Comet, and Blue Moon's kits) are all hopping in and out of their boxes. I love watching the juniors at this age.... they are incredibly energetic and playful. In a few more weeks, we'll be able to sex them. That's when I'll decide which bunnies will stay and which ones will go. Of course they can't leave until they're 8 weeks old, so I have plenty of time to decide. However, I will start taking deposits for the bunnies that I will defiantly be selling (most likely all the bucks).

Eclipse's Litter

Eclipse had 5 kits last night! I'm really puzzled on what colors they are though. At first I thought there were 4 torts and 1 black.... but now I'm not so sure. It's possible that there may be a blue in there but I doubt it. I'll keep checking their colors throughout this week though.

Went to a friend's house this afternoon and picked up a little broken chinchilla buck! He's mine for a whole month! I have to drop him back off to his owner at the Triple Crown next month. I'm just borrowing him for now. I'm going to breed him to Ebony and possibly Quinoa. Both does carry chinchilla so I might get some solid chins.

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Obese's Litter

Again..... I keep forgetting to blog about babies.

Good news! Obese had her first litter on Friday! She had 4 kits!! Not only this was her first litter but this was my first litter of Hotots, too. :) There may be some bad news to this story though.... I'm not sure Obese is feeding her kits. They feel warm and wiggle somewhat but they seem smaller than normal 2 day old kits. I hope I'm dreaming though because I don't want to lose all 4 kits. Plus, I don't have another doe to foster them to. :o Chocolate Chip was bred to Cobalt on the same day as Obese was bred to VJ, but I think she might have a few problems getting the kits out. :( She was having contractions last night and she was pulling out some fur as well. I went back out this morning and checked on her and the nest was empty. She has me completely puzzled..... ??

The other kits are doing great! I'm still unsure about varieties though.

If the rain clears up this afternoon, I might try to take some pics. I need a pic of the little sable point buck, Voyager. I just put him up for sale this week but he won't be ready until Easter time. He's looking good so far!

Saying Goodbye

It's always hard to say goodbye to such a sweet little bunny. Sadly, Cobalt was picked up this afternoon. I hated to see him leave but I know he will go to a good home. Thanks, Ashley! Hope you love him as much as we did! ;)

All the babies are doing great. After the Fox looks like a chicken though! Poor thing, she loves her kits to death and is always trying to keep them warm and cozy. She pulled out SO much fur that her skin looks raw now... :( Blue Moon and Comet's kits are doing wonderful, too! Blue Moon's babies are all very healthy. She must have a lot of milk to feed 5 kits. I was surprised because normally there are runts in most litters but Blue Moon doesn't have one. :) As for Comet, she doesn't have a runt either! Comet is really protective of her babies; she doesn't want me near them. I guess that's a good thing though. :)

Chocolate Chip and Obese are due tonight or tomorrow! Yay! I'll update the website if anything happens between the two does. :)

Sunday, March 21, 2010

Blue Moon's Litter

Oops....sorry. I forgot to blog about the babies that we had yesterday. :) Anyways, Blue Moon had 5 kits yesterday morning!! She made a nice nest and pulled out fur but she had her babies at the front of the box. So they were cold when I went to check on them. I put them in the back of the box where all the fur was. I'm sure they will stay warm now. :)

All the does seem to doing good though. Comet truly does have a peanut. [sigh]. At least I got 3 good oranges out of her. I can tell that they are starting to get a little bit of orange "peach fuzz" on their backs. :) She appears to be taking excellent care of her kits, too.

My next litters are due this Friday. I'll probably be updating the website later on this week once I confirm varieties of all 10 kits that were just born. I will also update the site when the other does have kits.

Wish the nice sunny days would last longer but we're supposed to get rain this afternoon. [sigh] [again]. More later!

Comet's Litter

I can already tell that this is going to be a wonderful weekend. I have tons of kits! Comet had her litter earlier this morning around 10:00 AM. She had 4 babies!!! Yessss! :) The worst part is that one of her babies is noticeably smaller than the others and looks to be a peanut. :(

I was thinking about fostering out a couple of Comet's kits to After the Fox because I don't trust first time moms very well. I surely do not want to take a chance of Comet not feeding her babies and end up loosing all 4! But so far everything seems to be going smoothly. Comet made a beautiful nest and pulled out lots of fur.

Hope everything will continue to run smoothly. Blue Moon is due tomorrow. Hope for the best out of her, too! :)

After the Fox's Litter

After the Fox had 2 kits early this morning! Yay! I went outside at 7:00 this morning and she was in the middle of giving birth, so I came back later to check on her and there were two healthy kits in the nestbox. I'm really excited to see what varieties the kits turn out to be. After all, this is the first litter that I've gotten from Zip so far. If both of her kits are does, then I will probably end up keeping the whole litter! But, I seriously doubt they will be does. Watch me get 2 bucks instead! Oh boy, I hope I didn't jinx that! LOL.

I have Comet and Blue Moon due next. Comet is due tomorrow and Blue Moon is due on Saturday. Hopefully, Comet will have her kits over night when it's cooler for her. Poor thing, she seems to think it's 100 degrees outside (because she's from NY) when it's really only 62 degrees here. Ha ha! Beautiful weather for us though! ;)

I think I have Peanut Butter due also. I forgot about her because I didn't write it down.... I remember breeding her though and she feels pregnant. Apparently, she knows she's bred! Look at the cute pics I took on March 14th's blog.

Have a great weekend since I probably won't blog again until next week unless someone has kits.

Funny Bunnies

Peanut Butter and After the Fox are nesting! Yay! Hopefully we'll have some kits soon! :) While I was feeding the buns this afternoon, I saw these two "funny bunnies" nesting and I ran to go get the camera. I got a nice pic of Peanut Butter while she was posing. :) After the Fox was just taking a break on her nestbox when I took the pic. I don't expect kits out of Peanut Butter because she's so small, but I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that she'll surprise me. On the other hand, After the Fox is proven although she has only had one litter. She had 3 kits but only one lived. Great mother though! :)

Rabbits For Sale

I have come to a conclusion and have decided that I'm going to sell my broken black doe, Poleywog's Sprinkles. I really, really hate to but I think it's time to move her on.... She is proven and is a wonderful mother! In her first litter, she had 3 precious, healthy kits. Sprinkles has only had one litter, so far, because I simply don't have anything to breed her to. I could have bred her to Cobalt, but Sprinkles doesn't carry the non-extension gene and I didn't want to mix her with it. She carries self and has a few martens in her pedigree that go farther back.

If there are any pet buyers reading this, now is the time to contact me for Easter. I will not have any Easter kits available. At most, one will be for sale, but I was thinking about keeping it if he/she turns out to be a doe. Other than that .... that's all. As of right now, I only have Cobalt and Sprinkles available. So, if you are looking for an Easter bunny, I suggest you contact me now about Cobalt or Sprinkles because I won't have any babies for sale.

Feeling like Spring

It is finally starting to feel like spring. Ahh.... the beautiful warm sunny days, the birds are always chirping, and the sweet smelling flowers starting to bloom; I just love spring. It is defiantly one of my favorite seasons. Not too hot, not too cold.

This warm sun has gotten me in a good mood, so I have been cleaning in the barn most of the afternoon. I grabbed a shovel and began to dig some dirt for the bunnies. The dirt is cool and moist so I just gave about a hand full to each of the buns and they go absolutely CRAZY! The bucks especially; they were spraying everywhere! It makes the buns feel like they're outside in a natural environment. VJ and Tempest had a blast! They are white, so you could really see how filthy they got. :) Anyways, I usually give the buns dirt as a special treat in the spring/summer months. They love it.

Have a great weekend!

Snow in March

This is really crazy. It has been snowing almost all day, but it's a wet snow. Barely any is sticking to the ground because it's about 35 or 36 degrees outside and the ground is warm. It is supposed to be around 30 degrees tonight and we're getting more snow, so we might have some on the ground by morning. It just doesn't make any sense when it's March already and we're getting snow in South Carolina. South Carolina. Can you believe it? I sure can't.

Again -- nothing has been happening in the bunny barn lately. I have a few bucks getting aggressive as the mature and it's pretty funny. :) They are spraying everywhere! Our broken black doe, Sprinkles is beside Ajax. Boy, he's a mess! He is 4 months old, so I guess he's really starting to have an interest in the does around him. It seems like every morning when I go to feed the buns, Sprinkles has urine on her water bottle. It's obviously from Ajax. :)

Dalisha and After the Fox are due on St. Patrick's Day (March 17th), but that's still awhile from now.

More info later.

Wacky Weather

Wow, it's almost March and here we are ..... expecting snow on Tuesday. This is very unusual weather for SC. By March, it's usually about 55 to 60 degrees. On the other hand, it was a beautiful weekend. A little chilly and windy in the mornings, but by the afternoon, it was just gorgeous! Wish the weekend and the nice weather would last longer .....

Nothing has been happening in the rabbitry lately. The buns seemed to enjoy the weather, too! :)

I am going to breed before summer comes. It gets too hot here and I feel bad for pregnant does, so I try not to breed in summer. I'll be breeding from now on until April or May and then I'll stop. I'll start breeding again in the fall.

All for now.

Rebreeding for Spring

It's almost the end of February and I haven't had very much luck with litters. I've only had one litter so far (from Misty Morning) and that's it. I think my main issue was winter, so I'm rebreeding for spring. Hopefully the warmer weather will put everyone in a better mood.

Hope to have some orange kits coming in the nestbox soon! I have 4 does bred by Zip so I'm really getting my hopes up for some orange kits. It was cooler when I bred them, so who knows what will happen .....

I also bred Obese to VJ yesterday. She didn't take when she was bred to Cobalt (which was probably good thing considering I would have had some weird looking mixed breeds) so I think I'll get my very first litter of baby Dwarf Hotots soon! : )

Other than that, nothing much is happening. I did put Cobalt up for sale the other day. I hated to do so, but I have a junior sable point buck to breed with my shaded does, so I honestly can't use him right now. Which is a bummer because he's proven and is such a sweet little guy! I'm really excited to see how his kits in the nestbox will turn out.

Which reminds me, Misty Morning's kits are doing good. They are starting to open their eyes and become very energetic.

That's all for now.

New Pics on the Website

Today was such a beautiful day, I couldn't help but to snap a few pics. It's hard to believe that last weekend it was snowing and this weekend it got up to 60 degrees! Anyways, check our Bucks, Does, and Junior pages for new pics.

Haven't had any more kits yet. Obese is still pulling out fur, but no babies. Eclipse is due today, but she's not giving me any signs. Hmmm.... Wonder what the problem is....?

I really hope that the lack of kits won't spoil this wonderful weekend!

Chocolate Chip's Litter

Wow, it seems like I never have any luck with first timers .... our broken Siamese sable doe, Chocolate Chip had 3 stillborn kits this afternoon. I'm probably going to rebreed her to Cobalt by this weekend.

Obese was pulling out her fur today, so hopefully that's a good sign! She made a really cozy looking nest yesterday and filled it with fur today. I hope she'll have her kits tonight! If her babies are stillborn just like Chocolate Chip's, then I will rebreed her to an actual Dwarf Hotot buck this time. : )

Other than Obese's upcoming litter, nothing much is going on right now. Oh -- I took pics of 3 different buns today, but I'm waiting to get pics of all of them, so I can put them on the website together. It takes some time to upload the pics onto the site. I'm talking about 5 to 6 minutes per picture. I know it's not my computer, so it must take awhile for the pics to upload on the site.

I also got the "Pet Rabbit Care" page up and running last night. Hope it will be useful to first time bunny owners!

Pet Rabbit Care Page

We already have 3 does bred by Zip! Yay! Now we're keeping our fingers crossed that they're bred. I usually don't have any luck with winter breedings. Since spring is just around the corner, hopefully the kits are too!

I'm in the process of adding a "Pet Rabbit Care" page to our website. We are adding this page for anyone who is interested in purchasing a pet bunny that doesn't know how to care for one. I've included a few tips and suggestions along with my opinions. I'm sure they will be very useful to a first time bunny owner! I'm getting ready to publish the page as it's almost finished. It should be on the site by tonight.

I haven't taken any pics yet. I keep telling myself to take some, but it's been so cold and windy here I don't like to stay out long. Plus, the buns look horrible when they have fur blowing everywhere in the pic. If the weather is nicer this weekend, I'll take some pics then.

More Upcoming Litters

Oh -- and I did breed Zip today! Dalisha and After the Fox successfully took to Zip this afternoon. Can't wait to get some orange kits out of them. I have a wonderful feeling that Zip and Fanta will be used a lot with our does. : )

We will be selling Zip later on towards the end of this year once we get some nice oranges out of him.

I picked up a little junior sable point doe (named Aquene) from Spring Creek Gems this afternoon as well. A very nice lady transported her for me from TN. : ) Thanks Lori! Aquene has a stunning color on her coat. We hope she'll be the perfect match with our sable point buck, Ajax.

Website Updated

We updated the site today! Hopefully I can take some pics soon. All the buns are doing great and adjusting to their environment well. Already have some that are really friendly and a couple that are shy and skittish. They'll probably warm up to us soon. : )

I'm hoping to breed a few oranges today, but I don't know if Zip is ready or not. I usually wait about a week until everyone settles in, but I just don't have the patience! ; )

I also looked at Misty Morning's kits this morning and she has 2 sable points and 2 torts. All 4 are incredibly healthy and doing wonderful!

Happy Valentine's Day!

More New Rabbits

Well, we went to the Sanford, NC show today and came back with 8 buns! I'm going to try to update the website tomorrow, so keep checking our Bucks, Does, and our Juniors page for new bunnies! I probably won't be able to take pics right away, though.

Misty Morning's Litter

Misty Morning kindled this afternoon and had 4 kits! I don't know what varieties the kits are yet, but I'll know in about a week or so. Once the kits open their eyes, (which is in about 2 weeks) I'll start taking some pics. I often move them to the For Sale page at about 4 weeks old when I know which one/ones I'll be keeping.

Keep checking back for more updates! Other does are due soon!
