Juniors

I can't stop thinking about my juniors! I'm not trying to be boastful, but gosh, I remember I set my goals when I started raising rabbits. They were:

1. Focus on quality.

2. Win a leg.

3. Win a leg with a home-bred rabbit.

Numbers 2 and 3 I did with the same rabbit! I still can't believe it because my goals are already accomplished. But I obviously still have lots of room for improvement as far as quality which is why I'm so excited for these juniors. They should be really good which is why I'm scared to sell them. I have a hard time evaluating youngsters and I like to wait until they are at least 3 months so you can really tell what they are going to look like. It's hard. So I guess we'll see what happens. :)

Litters & Website

I was so annoyed with my website because, for some reason, I could no longer upload pictures so it was basically useless. So I went for it. You guessed it, I made a new website. Now I'm using Weebly as a host instead of Webs and so far it's working out better. I hope you enjoy the website. ;) A few things have changed (Contact Us and Links page) but for the most part nothing is really new. I had several babies born since the last blog though, so take a look at the Nestbox page for new litters. That's everything for now. Feel free to shoot me an email and let me know what you think about the new website. :) I have a few more litters on the way, so I'll keep you informed.

Upcoming juniors

Okay... I have lots of babies... 25 total in the barn right now... I really need to get them moving for when the 8 week mark comes around.

I just posted a seal buck named Homerun on my For Sale page. Homerun is too young to say much about. He looks nice so far though. He seems like he will be nice because he has very good lines. Homerun will be ready to leave his mother around April 11th. If you are interested in him, I can send you a few pictures, but I can't seem to get any on the website right now.

I just had another litter born this morning... :)

Mikey x Blue Moon ~ 2 black torts and 1 sable point - Blue Moon is the mother to Evana, (who now has 3 legs) so I'm anxious to see how this litter develops. I'm thinking about holding onto them for showing. :)

That's everything for now!

*Smile*

"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" - Philippians 4:4

I know this blog was kinda intended for talking about rabbits, but I would like to elaborate on this verse a little bit....

When you turn on the TV to watch an old classic movie, what do you see? You see smiling faces and joyfulness in just about everyone. Nowadays, if you smile at someone, you will be ignored or simply won't get a smile in return.

I strongly believe that this happened as America got more and more 'spoiled'. People now don't appreciate the things they have like they did a few centuries ago. For example, when you go out to buy yourself something new, after a few days its history before we want something else again. Isn't that always the case? I'll admit, I'm like that most of the time, too. Back in the 1800's, people (mainly kids) were grateful that they could have a piece of candy, on Christmas, that cost 10 cents, because they never got it. They learned to appreciate it and were very happy to receive it.

My main point today was to try to get people (including myself) to smile and be happy more often. You may be having an awful day, but don't show it. Instead, smile. Encourage others to be happy and smile, too. You might just be the one that brightens up someone else's bad day. *Smile* :)

Greensboro show

Well, after really giving it some thought, we've decided not to go to the Greensboro show. I need to save some extra cash for the rabbits I'm having transported to and from the Nationals. I'm getting some really nice little bucks that I can't wait for. I'll go ahead and be a snitch... :)

Siamese Sable senior buck ~ 2 legs - I'm especially excited for this boy, because he should be a major improvement to my shaded herd. For starters, I can finally breed someone my sable point doe, Harp. She's the full sister to Mikey, so I can't breed them together. My intention was to have another buck ready to breed to her when I bought her, but it didn't work out that way. So now Harp is 11 months old and has never had kits before.... :(

Broken Black senior buck ~ 1 leg - This buck never got used or shown much by his owner, so I'm really eager to bring this guy home. :) He will hopefully replace Spike.

Sable Point junior buck ~ This little dude is only 8 weeks old right now. By the time the Nationals arrive, he will hopefully start to fill out nicely like the other 2 seem to be. I have big plans for him, too!

That's everything for now. Good luck to everyone that will be attending the Greensboro show!

Satisfaction

Okay, I'm satisfied. It didn't take too long. Here's a wrap of the few litters I've recently had.

Mikey x Pink Ice - 3 kits! No peanuts... none dead. I'm not sure if they are going to be himis or sable points or what. But I have a good feeling that Pink Ice will be a great producer just like her mother. Aquene had 3 babies in her first litter as well. No peanuts. None dead. Either. :)

Red Hot x Citrus - I was really worried about this litter at first. I didn't think Citrus was feeding her babies, but I took a big risk and held out for a few days and I think they are doing fine. Now, she has 2 healthy kits. Citrus actually had 4 (wow!) but 2 were dead at birth.

Tang x Sunkist - She had 1 dead kit this morning. The peculiar part was it was a huge baby! I'm just glad she passed it. I might rebreed her again before she goes.

As for the other litters, they are doing great! Comet is down to one kit though... the other one didn't make it for whatever reason.

More later.

Getting off to a bad start

So it's a new month and so far it's not going that great. First of all, I had 2 litters that didn't make it.

Mikey x Nell aka "Nelly" - I didn't hope for much since this was Nelly's first time. She had one dead kit yesterday. Which isn't a problem... since it was her first time like I just said. So, I'm going to rebreed her soon. Better luck next time!

Tang x Mango - Here's the aggravating part. Mango had 3 kits (one peanut) on March 1st. I was thrilled for her because she was a first time mom so that's great, right? It's not so great when the mother doesn't feed her babies though. I really regret not paying close enough attention. So needless to say, all of her kits passed away. I guess I know for next time.

That's everything for now. Also, I won't be able to make it to Dalton this weekend. I just thought I'd throw that out there... :)
