The Meltdown

Well, it's about 38 degrees (F) here and the snow is melting. The warm sun is melting all the snow, but it's still on the grass; however, nothing is on the trees or roads. It's going to be 22 degrees tonight, so it will probably refreeze -- again.

The buns are doing great. Have a lot of does due next week. Yes! Can't wait for kits! I will probably end up keeping more babies than I need. I guess that's how it always is -- hold my favorites back and see how they develop. Then after 3 or 4 months, sell the one/ones I'm not happy with. Have lots of people on my waiting list for Easter buns already, so I'm not sure how many I'll get to keep this year. Hoping for some nice, big litters!

We have a chestnut doe, (Amber's Quinoa) that feels like she's bred. We aren't exactly sure if she took or not, because we left her in a buck's cage all night. If she's pregnant, she was bred to our broken tort buck (that is in a new home now), Trix. She will probably kindle around February 14th or 15th. We hope she's bred, because we really would like a broken chestnut doe out of the two!

Snowy days

We have about 3 or 4 inches of snow already, plus we have a layer of ice on top! Wish the Spartanburg show wasn't cancelled -- we were getting 4 buns there, so we have to reschedule at a different show. The next show we are *probably* attending is the Saluda, SC show next weekend. We haven't decided if we're going yet, but so far not many breeders are going. If we go, then it would be just to pick up some bunny supplies and one junior doe.

Our tort doe, Tiger Lilly is due next Friday on February 5th. We gave her a nestbox yesterday, and she has already started nesting. Yay! Hopefully she has some nice kits on the way!

Winter Wonderland

Wow, where do I begin? First of all, we have snow, snow, and even more snow! We never have snow here in SC, and we're supposed to get about 4-5 inches tonight!

The show that was in Spartanburg, SC was cancelled because -- you guessed it -- SNOW! I love to look at snow, but I don't like to be outside in it; it's just way too cold for the buns and I. Anyways, the show was postponed until April. They're not excatly sure when in April yet, but probably on the 17th or 24th.

We give the buns plenty of straw, but somehow by the next day nothing is left. I guess they just like to play and dig at it more so than using for warmth and bedding. Oh well, I can't blame them -- I'd get pretty board too if I lived in a cage. It's hilarious to watch them dig! We sometimes give our buns cardboard boxes filled with straw. It's always fun to watch them dig and tear apart the boxes. The buns love to hop in and out of the boxes.

Keep warm!
